The Poor to Listen

Poor that …

thirst

Isa 55:1  "Ho, every one that thirsteth, …"

"Ho!" as in Ruth 4.1

"Hey, stop for a moment so I can speak of an important matter."

Ruth 4:1  "Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down."

"Ho!" as in Proverbs 1.21

Not just to get attention, but also in almost desperation.

Prov 1:21  "She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,"

Prov 1:22  "How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?"

God is the thirst quencher

"…come ye to the waters, …"

Those that Thirst
Come to God

Isa 41:17  "When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them."

God has plenty

Isa 41:18  "I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: …"

God can put water where there has never been water

"…I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water."

God can produce from the waterless places

Isa 41:19  "I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together:"

God has got a reason

Isa 41:20  "That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it."

Sometimes we don't even know
that it is really God that we seek.

Psa 63:1  "O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;"

Poor that …

are in poverty

"…and he that hath no money; …"

Man has no money because he as given himself away

Isa 52:3  "For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money."

God will buy man back without money with His Own Blood.

Rev 5:9  "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;"

God will buy man back without money with His Own Blood, once for eternity.

Heb 9:12  "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

God will buy man back without money with His Own Blood, and forgive him of all sins.

Col 1:14  "In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgive his of sins:"

God will buy man back without money with His Own Blood, and forgive him of all sins, by His Grace.

Eph 1:7  "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"

Poor that …

hunger

"…come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk …"

God is the hunger reliever

"…without money and without price."

Poor that …

have no economic sense

Isa 55:2  "Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? …"

Spending money for un-necessary things,
tends towards idol worship.

Isa 46:6  "They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship."

Isa 46:7  "They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble."

The Poor to Hear

Hearing God …

is the "rich food".

"…hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness."

This is not an isolated, obscure verse …

Deu 11:13  "And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,"

Deu 11:14  "That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil."

Spiritually hearkening with diligence

Rom 10:17  "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Hearing God …

is the "eternal food".

Isa 55:3  "Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; …"

The Father commands us to listen to the Lord

Mat 17:5  "While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."

Listen to
receive the Word

John 5:24  "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, …"

Listen to
believe on the Eternal Christ

"…and believeth on him that sent me, …"

Listen to
 receive Eternal Life

"…hath everlasting life, …"

Listen to
be relieved of Eternal Judgment

"…and shall not come into condemnation; …"

Listen to
be make the transition from Eternal Death to Eternal Life

"…but is passed from death unto life."

Hearing of God's …

merciful covenant is the "assuring food"

"…and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David."

God established His covenant with Abraham

Gen 17:7  "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee."

This is for Abraham and His seed, which is Christ

Gal 3:16  "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."

The Church is also in this covenant, because we are in Christ, the body of Christ.

Rom 12:5  "So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another."

Illustration of the Covenant

The Second David is an example …

of Christ To-Come

Isa 55:4  "Behold, I have given him …"

God gave His Son …

John 3:16  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

God spared not His Son …

Rom 8:32  "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"

God used His Son to reconcile

Rom 5:10  "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

The Second David is an example …

as a Witness

"…for a witness to the people, …"

John 18:37  "Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice."

1 Tim 6:13  "I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;"

Rev 3:14  "And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;"

The Second David is an example …

as a Leader/Commander

"…a leader and commander to the people."

The sheep hear, know and follow.

John 10:27  "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:"

The servant follows and is everywhere the Lord is and is honored by the Father for service.

John 12:26  "If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour."

The Leader leads the saints, but takes vengeance on the lost

2 Th 1:8  "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"

The Leader has the Power and so do those in the Leader

to obediently win
to Baptist in obedience
to Disciple them to obedience
no matter where
no matter what

Mat 28:18  "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."

Mat 28:19  "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

Mat 28:20  "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

The Church is to do more than David

Leader/Commander over …

Jew

Isa 55:5  "Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, …"

Isa 11:10  "And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious."

Eph 3:5  "Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;"

Eph 3:6  "That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:"

Leader/Commander over …

Gentile

"…and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; …"

Leader/Commander in …

God's Power and Majesty

"…for he hath glorified thee."

Glorified by the Father

Heb 5:5  "So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee."

Heb 5:6  "As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec."

Seek the Lord

Seek Christ …

While He is available

The Lord said …

Psa 27:8  "… Seek ye my face…"

Jesus said,

Mat 7:7  "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"

"Seek the Lord" today …

2 Cor 6:2  "…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)"

But there is a time when it will be too late to "Seek the Lord"

John 8:21  "Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come."

There is no hiding …

Heb 2:3  "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation…"

Seek Christ …

while He is close

"…call ye upon him while he is near:"

We are near by the Blood of Christ

Stay close …

Repent to God for His …

mercy

"…and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; …"

Not Justice, but Mercy

Titus 3:5  "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…"

Repent to God for His …

pardon

"…and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."

Sin is no equal to Grace in amount

Rom 5:20  "Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:"

Sin is no equal to Grace in power

Rom 6:14  "For sin shall not have dominion over you…"
