Hurry Is a Killer

Patience is an Overcomer

Hurry kills our Rest in the Lord.

Psa 37:7 "Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him…"
Mat 11:28 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Mat 11:29 "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
Mat 11:30 "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Hurry at this point will not let you …
rest
put your burdens down
learn of Christ
become meek and lowly
find the Lord's Work

Hurry will make you …
give up too soon
scurry around in circles
not complete what you started

Hurry is a killer

Hurry kills continuance in Prayer

Rom 12:12 "Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;"

The Christian will not continue in Prayer
if he is in a Hurry.

He can't stay at it.
He can't keep the incense going up.
He can't abide in the presence of the Lord.
As a matter of fact, he will never arrive there.

Hurry kills an answer to prayer

Psa 40:1 "I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry."

Hurry will deny the answer to prayer
because you can't sit still and wait for the answer to come
because you can't fathom it taking so long
because you can't believe the Lord is going to answer sooner or later

Hurry will cut your prayer short
it will not let you finish telling the Lord what is needful
it will not let you wait on that precious answer
it will not let you think clearly
it will not let you listen for the Lord to speak back

Hurry will get you off your knees
and doing things that have a show of progress
But at the same time,
hurry is not a friend to Progress.

Hurry kills Fruit

Do you remember the story about the Sower?
The seed that was broadcast on the Rocky Ground.

Luke 8:13 "…which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away."

The seed on the Rocky Ground
does not give the roots time
to get down into the ground
to take a hold
to penetrate the ground to find water

It is …
hurry!!!, hurry!!!, hurry!!!

Then look at what happened
Hurry killed the plant,
and the fruit it would produce,
and the progress it would have made.

Do you remember the seed which fell amongst the thorns?

Luke 8:14 "… which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection."

Hurry killed
these plants as well

Hurry pointed out
the instant progress of others
the instant gratification of having it how

but all these things are the very demise
of real progress
of real fruit bearing
of real living

Then, do you remember the seed that fell on the good ground?

Luke 8:15 "…which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience."

How is progress made?
With patience.
With out a hurried attitude
With out a rush to victory

Hurry kills progress

Hurry kills victory

Progress is slow.
Progress comes step by step
not in leaps and bounds.

Oh, sometimes it looks like it is coming real fast
but
there is always a set back
there is forever a stumbling block
there is always 10 steps forward
and 7 or 8 or 9 back.

The Wise man said,
"to know how to wait, is the secret of success."
Everyone knows
we must sow before we can reap

but it is also true
that we must water after sowing
that we must cultivate after sowing
that we must fertilize after sowing
that we must trust in the generous hand of God after sowing
then,
after months in the ground …. We can Reap.

Hurry is a killer

True Progress or Victory
is not a pipe line
that is straight
and round
and smoothe

True Progress or Victory
is wandering, meandering stream
that runs down hill
over rocks
through the brush
around the hills
filling each small pool
a little at a time
trinkling its way to the sea
drop by drop
step by step
precept upon precept

Hurry kills the humility of the humble

and is the companion of the Prideful.

Eccl 7:8 "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit."

Patience is the opposite of Pride

The Prideful are
impatient
in a hurry
in considerate
never courteous
has no compassion for the less fortunate

The Humble are
patient
not in a hurry
considerate
courteous
full of compassion

Hurry kills Compassion

Mat 18:26 "The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all."
Mat 18:27 "Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him…

He let him go out of patience.

The impatient leader
is a taskmaster
is a Simon Legree
is never a person that can have the patience to mature those under him

Hurry kills Forgiveness

"…and forgave him the debt."
Mat 18:28 "But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest."
Mat 18:29 "And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all."

Hurry is the foe of forgiveness
Hurry cannot wait
Hurry cannot see himself in others
Hurry must scurry
Hurry takes a blunt instrument
and whips compassion about the face and head

This is exactly why
Hurry is a killer of love …

Hurry kills love

Mat 5:44 "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"

Hurry has no time for all this
Hurry only has time to love those that are good to him.

Hurry only has time to love …
when it is convenient
when there is not resistance
when there is love in return
when it is affordable
when it is advantageous
when it is beneficial

Because Hurry is in a Hurry

Hurry kills Self Control

Luke 21:19 "In your patience possess ye your souls."

The outside force
that pries your fingers loose
from your self control
is Hurry

Hurry is that sense of reckless abandonment
that says …
what is all this talk of taking control of your life???
Let's get living.
Let's get moving.
Let's get started.

The sooner we get under way
the sooner we can retire

Which brings us to our next point …

Hurry kills the Long Race

Heb 12:1 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,"

That weight that needs to be laid aside …
is Hurry
so we can Run the Race
with Patience.

In sports
Hurry is a sprinter
Hurry is a the one that operates purely on talent

because Hurry does not have time
for calisthenics
for training
for preparation for the long haul

Hurry is the Rabbit
in the story of the Rabbit and the Turtle

He runs very fast
but he loses the race

Hurry puts on a good show
but loses the race

Hurry is a killer

Hurry kills Attentive Listening

Do you remember Paul asking King Aggripa
to hear him patiently??? (Acts 26.3)

Then, King Aggripa told Paul

Acts 26:28 "…Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian."

And then …

Acts 26:30 "…the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:"

and hurriedly left
the Good News.

Oh, if he had done like it says in Book of Romans …

Rom 2:7 "… by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and (and seek for) honour and (and seek for) immortality, (seek) eternal life:"

But Hurry is the enemy
of Attentive Listening

Agrippa said,
almost thou persuadest me

as if …
it was Paul's fault
Paul did not use enough eloquence
Paul did not have the proper illustration
Paul did not have a good enough testimony about his own salvation

Paul was still willing to tell the King more
but …
the King was impatient
the King was in a Hurry

and Hurry killed the King's ability
to listen attentively

Hurry kills the thought of Suffering with Christ

Rom 5:3 "And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;"
Rom 5:4 "And patience, experience; and experience, hope:"

Hurry kills Hope

Rom 8:25 "But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it."

A Christian cannot Hurry for Hope
Faith is trusting God with a little doubt.
Hope is trusting God with no doubt at all.

Hope comes
after Faith has been proven many times

Mat 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

After those things have been "added unto you" many times
you get to where you are pretty certain
it is going to happen again
just the way God said it would.

Rom 15:4 "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."

When it says …

Mal 3:10 "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

Hurry does not have time for waiting on Hope
Hurry is in a Hurry

Hurry will never be able
to have 100% assurance in God

Hurry does not have time for promises
hurry is after the things he can see
right now
today
or for sure as soon as Fed Ex can get there.

Which brings us to our next point

Hurry kills the Promise of the Promises

Heb 6:12 "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

Don't get hung up
on that word Slothful
and think
that hurrying hard word is the answer.

Hard work is vital
but patiently working hard
is what is meant.

Through Faith & Patience
the Christian inherits the Promises of God.

Heb 6:13 "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,"
Heb 6:14 "Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee."

Now we remember Abraham
how he wanted to hurry and have a child
and not wait on God

That hurrying almost killed the Promises of God
But
God was not in a Hurry
and was patient with Abraham's adultery

Heb 6:15 "And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise."

In another place it says …

Heb 10:36 "For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have one the will of God, ye might receive the promise."

Hurry kills Unity

Rom 15:5 "Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:"

It takes Patience
to be in unity
to be in fellowship
to be in one accord

Hurrying will destroy the whole thing

Rev 1:9 "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ."

John said
while on Patmos
that he was in unity with the Brethren
in the Patience of Christ.

There is no Unity in Hurry
Hurry is a loner
Hurry is an isolationist
Hurry is to run out in front by yourself

Hurry kills Respect for the Power of God

Col 1:11 "Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;"

The Power of God
does not come to the Hurrier
but,
to the Patient

Hurry kills our love of the Second Coming

2 Th 3:5 "And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ."
James 5:7 "Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain."
James 5:8 "Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh."

Don't get in a hurry for Jesus to come.
It has taken Him 2000 years to come back.
If you get in a Hurry now
you will begin to set dates,
you will begin to twist the scriptures,
you will begin to promote a sign or token of His return.

When you would be much better off
to be patient
not in a hurry
not in a flurry

because Hurry is a killer of “the Love of His Return”

Hurry kills Respect for Grandpa

Titus 2:2 "That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience."

Hurry is a killer for respect for Grandpa
Having Children teaches you patience
to be employed with Grand Children.

We older fellows
need to be sober,
grave,
Temperate,
Faithful,
loving
and patient

Not in a Hurry,
especially the really older guys.

Hurry kills Maturity

James 1:3 "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."
James 1:4 "But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

There is no perfection in Hurrying
another word for perfection is Maturity.

Young folks
you will never mature
until you learn to deny Hurry

Keep hurry
at bay
on the run
in the wood shed
out of your heart
and learn that all the trials that confronts Hurry
is working patience in your live

Hurry kills Joy

James 5:11 "Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy."

The Lord is pitiful to Whom???

The Lord is merciful to Whom???

It is not to those that Hurry
but to the Patient

Hurry kills godliness

2 Pet 1:5 "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;"
2 Pet 1:6 "And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;"
2 Pet 1:7 "And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity."

The man or woman that Hurries
will never see godliness
will never see brotherly kindness
will never see love with the right reasons

because
they come after patience.

Hurry kills protection from Temptation

Rev 3:10 "Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth."

Hurry will bring temptation to your door
more greater frequency
with greater ferocity
and
with greater numbers each time it arrives

Patience keeps temptations at bay

Hurry kills obedience

Rev 14:10 "The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:"
Rev 14:11 "And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name."
Rev 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

Hurry kills obedience

Jesus was not in a Hurry

Jesus was never in a Hurry.

He was not in a Hurry
in turning the water into wine, His first miracle
in even being born,

it was prophecied 4000 years before to Adam and Eve

in eating after fasting 40 days and nights in the wilderness

He even allowed the devil to come and tempt Him with food

in walking every where He went

He could have transported Himself, if He was in a Hurry
and He had way more important business than the busiest CEO

In His preaching of Asking, Seeking and Knocking
In healing the Centurion's Servant

He said I will come and heal him,
He could have healed him from where He stood

In the matter of the storm while in the Ship

Jesus actually slept through it
Some folks can't stand for the wind to blow
or the lightning to strike
or the thunder to roll
They are in a great Hurry to get some relief
when the real relief is in the patient continuance

In His healing the 2 blind men

He immediately told them
to not tell anyone what happened to them
He was patient to not jump at fame and fortune

In His composure when the Pharisees decided to kill Him

He went about His business
without panic
without alarm
without hysteria

In His statement about the others that were Preaching the coming of Christ.

He told His disciples
He that is not against us
is for us

In His answer about His mother and brothers and sisters outside to see Him

He never broke stride
but said, that those that do the Father's will
are His mother and sisters and brothers

In His dealing with the 5000

His disciples told Him
We don't have the food to feed this many
It would take 200 days wages
He never panicked
but quietly prayed over a boys lunch
and fed the whole bunch.

In His handling of His taxes

Trustingly received the money
from the fish's mouth
of His Father in Heaven

In His answer to the Chief Priests

In His answer to Pilate
In His answer to the Thieves crucified with Him

1 Th 5:14 "Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men."

Do not get in a Hurry with people

Hurry is a killer

Hurry kills Victory

Rev 13:9 "If any man have an ear, let him hear."
Rev 13:10 "He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints."
Rev 13:11 "And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon."

Hurry kills the Proof of False Prophets

Rev 2:2 "I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:"
Rev 2:3 "And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted."
